Why spend time reading this article?

A small change in our routine leads to formidable improvements. This is the case with to-do lists, which are in every notebook and sheet of paper hanging from the fridge. With the enhancement I suggest in this article, to-do lists become even more powerful tools.

Everybody writes to-do lists. They are everywhere. Even those who do not write them materially on some medium, paper or digital, mentally list what they have to do. And that’s the problem.

When things are constantly under our eyes, we tend to refrain from reflecting on their nature. To-do lists are among these transparent things that we consider trivial because we can hand them effortlessly.

The to-do list’s profound nature

A to-do list concentrates on deciding what things to do and in which order. In a to-do list:

  • Each item description synthesizes the essence of the task to do. That description is a new composite word that labels the thing to get done. It’s like forging a new language based on common words.
