11 Tips for Technical Writers
Writing is my job. Technical writing is a relevant part of my writing job, so after some months of exploring, I need to link the dots and cluster the articles I published about this topic.
Each genre of writing has its own identity. If you put “technical writing” in the Google search, the first two links are far enough to define what it is:
That’s a fantastic introduction, but it’s not mine. Instead, I want a story that has my fingerprint on it.
When I explore a topic, I want to create my representation of it. That’s why I started to write about technical writing.
Retrospectively looking at the 11 articles that I wrote, they belong to three categories:
- Identity: that’s how technical writing looks as a human endeavor. Every job’s mission defines it as a part of human society.
- Sources: writing needs sources of information, and technical writing is no exception. Great focus on subject matter experts (SMEs): they are the most relevant source.
- Techniques: that’s how technical writing puts in place technical communication. I collected some tips for success in simplifying the life of users, whoever they are, whatever product they use.
